Brewing and Beer

The collaboration brew is nothing new to the craft beer industry.  Brewers will often share ideas and ingredients with one another to create something new and typically experimental, but Dogfish Head is trying a new type of collaboration beer by teaming up with none other than hip-hop artist Dan the Automator from Deltron 3030.  Positive Contact is the new creation that will be a beer/cider mix, featuring some of Dan’s favorite ingredients: Fuji Apples, Cayenne Peppers, roasted Farro, and Cilantro.

Some breweries keep a pretty strict lineup when it comes to their beers, a handful of standard selections and the same seasonal brews year after year, while others seem to be trying something new every few weeks.  It can be difficult to keep track of what comes out when, but luckily for you that’s our job.  And to make everyone’s life a little bit easier, Dogfish Head has updated their release calendar for 2012.  Click the link below to see when each of their 20 seasonal/specialty beers will be available this year.  Some particularly exciting releases include the 120-minute IPA, Bitches Brew (best paired with Miles Davis’ album of the same name), and Noble Rot, a beer/wine hybrid.

Nothing goes together quite like movies and beer, making us wonder why there aren’t more theaters that serve alcohol.  But soon, beer and movies will come together in a new and very entertaining way.  The 2012 Off-Centered Film Fest by Dogfish Head isn’t just an excuse to meet up and watch movies while drinking craft brew, though it is a big part of it; but it’s also a chance to show some creativity and make a film of your own featuring the beer you love.

Located at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin, TX with a date to be announced (sometime in April), the Off-Centered Film Fest will be taking submissions as of January 13, 2012 via their website. Films can be no longer than 5 minutes in length, must contain a “WESTERN OFF-CENTERED” theme which can be interpreted however the director sees fit, and all submissions must include a reference to Dogfish Head in the script OR have Dogfish Head product placement in the film.  Entries must be received by March 5, 2012 and prizes include cash ($1,000 for 1st place) as well as airfare, hotel, tickets to the event, and a bag full of Dogfish Head goodies.  Happy Filming!
